A few of our PPT4Kids therapists recently visited the Paley Advanced Limb Lengthening Institute at St. Mary’s Medical Center, West Palm Beach, FL, and I had the wonderful honor of tagging along. Wow! What an amazing place!
The Institute offers families access to the most cutting edge orthopedic treatments for reconstruction and preservation of upper and lower limbs. Dr. Dror Paley leads the Institute having pioneered many innovative surgical techniques for the treatment of the following:
• limb-length discrepancy
• limb deformity
• congenital deficiencies
• skeletal dysplasias and dwarfisms
• non-unions
• joint preservation
• complex and rare bone diseases and skeletal abnormalities
This orthopedic expertise has drawn patients from fifty states and more than thirty countries. And Dr. Paley and his team are right in our backyard!
In addition to an amazing staff of surgeons, The Paley Institute offers patients an onsite rehabilitation center directed by Fran Guardo, M.Ed., MPT, DPT. The Paley Rehab Institute specializes in orthopedic rehabilitation for Dr. Paley’s patients, however Fran and her staff are also known for their expertise in serial casting for congenital club foot deformities, arthrogryposis, or cerebral palsy, as a method of gaining muscle length and joint range of motion without surgical intervention. On several occasions, Progressive Pediatric Therapy has worked with the Paley team to continue therapy treatment in the patients’ home.
